Major Changes in RdSAP 10 – What It Means for Your EPC in Durham, Northumberland and the North East
If you’re a homeowner, landlord, or just someone keeping an eye on energy regulations, there’s a big change coming: RdSAP 10 is on its way — and it’s the biggest update to energy performance assessments in years.
At Derwentside Environmental Associates, I’ve been preparing for this shift and wanted to share in plain English what RdSAP 10 actually means for you — especially if you’re based in Durham, Northumberland, Consett, Stanley, Hexham, or Gateshead.
What Is RdSAP 10?
RdSAP stands for the Reduced Data Standard Assessment Procedure. It’s the methodology used by accredited energy assessors (like me) to calculate the energy rating of homes and issue EPCs (Energy Performance Certificates).
RdSAP 10 is the latest version, replacing RdSAP 2012. It brings more accuracy, new data fields, and better alignment with modern retrofit standards. It’s also designed to integrate more closely with the government’s push for greener homes.
Key Changes in RdSAP 10 (What You Need to Know)
- More detailed insulation data – Includes cavity wall fill types and roof insulation layers
- Heat pump updates – Better assessment of air source and ground source heat pumps
- Thermal bridging improvements – More realistic accounting for heat loss through junctions
- Improved fuel types – Expanded and refined fuel categories
- Changes to default values – More tailored and accurate assumptions for older homes
For anyone planning a retrofit assessment , this is great news — more accurate ratings and better recommendations tailored to your home’s true performance.
What Should You Do About It?
If you’ve already had an EPC and it’s still valid, you don’t need to panic. But if you’re thinking about:
- Selling or renting your property
- Applying for government retrofit funding
- Installing insulation or a heat pump
…you’ll want to make sure your EPC is based on the most accurate data available — which means an RdSAP 10-compliant assessment is the way to go.
I’m already training and updating all software ready for RdSAP 10, so you’ll be getting the latest version from me as soon as it goes live.
